6 Ways to Make the Most of Uncertain Times

To Our Heat Free Hair Community:

We know that these times have been nothing short of trying. COVID-19’s impact has been great on all of us and it may feel difficult to cope with. As a team, we are sending love and light to all of you during this challenging time.

Lately, it feels very natural to feel uncertain, but if there is one thing we can control right now, it’s how we decide to handle this. For some of us, managing anxiety or keeping a positive attitude is easier said than done. However, as a community, we believe that sharing healthy practices with one another can help with getting through this together.

Here are some practices we wanted to share:

 1. Accept What Is Happening

Now more than ever is the time to be present and accept the truth in all of this. Accept how you’re feeling emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. When it begins to feel overwhelming, try to make peace with knowing that you aren’t alone in this.

2. Practice Gratitude

Make expressing gratitude a part of your routine. While we’re all working from home and practicing social distancing, it can feel like a challenging adjustment. However, this change in pace can be that reset we never knew we needed.

As soon as you wake up, name the things you are grateful for. Whether it's your health, your family, the privilege to still be able to work, etc. Appreciating what you do have during a time like this can help with lowering stress and keeping a clear mind.

3. Learn a New Skill

Sometimes isolation leads to elevation and now is no different. If you’re feeling stir-crazy, channel that energy into developing a new skill. Whether it is trying out that recipe, finishing up that home project you’ve put aside, or even breaking open those resistance bands to get those squats in. Whatever your goal is, now is the time to get it done!

4. Check-In With Loved Ones

During these times, when it comes to checking in, texting won’t do. Pick up the phone and call your friends and family. Ask them how they’re doing, listen to them, tell them you love them. Remind them that they are appreciated and loved.

5. Revamp Your Self Care

Self-care looks different to all of us, but we can all afford to nurture what we have neglected. Try upgrading your skincare regimen, working out, journaling, or simply hydrating. You can even use this time to practice looking and feeling good at home. Dress up, beat your face, or experiment with new Heat Free Hair hairstyles. Whatever helps improves your mood or energy, do more of that.

6. Stay Social at a Distance

For those who are fighting cabin fever right now, you can still be social while staying safe. Call up your girls for a virtual happy hour, schedule intimate FaceTime dates with your man, or even tune in to your favorite DJ’s Instagram live and have a dance party at home.

7. Watch Empowering Content

With all this time at home, you’ve probably been getting real cozy with your streaming services. With all of the content out there, it is important to be mindful of what you're consuming. For the sake of your mental health, stay far away from apocalyptic or dystopian narratives and stick with hopeful and uplifting content.

Need suggestions? How about Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam CJ Walker, or revisiting Beyonce’s: Homecoming on Netflix. Use this kind of content to keep you inspired at home.

6. Plan for What’s Ahead

While it feels like life’s been on put pause, it doesn’t have to be. Now’s the time to pivot, improvise, and keep moving forward. As we continue to keep the positivity alive, create playbooks for future goals, add more things on your bucket list and importantly, plan out new looks from clothes to hairstyles for the coming out of quarantine party!

We hope these tips have been helpful to you. Let us know if there are any practices you want to share with the Heat Free Hair Community. We got this!
